Rajanikanta Bordoloi was an Assamese writer, novelist and journalist whose contribution to Assamese literature is immense. The writer is hailed with many revered titles like, ‘Upanyash Samrat (The King of Novels)’, ‘Pioneer of Romanticism in Assamese Literature‘ and the ‘Walter Scott of Assam’. The publication of his debut tribal novel, ‘Miri Jiyori’, placed him as one of the greatest novelists of Assam, and laid down the steps to his respectable stature for years to come.
Throughout his life, Rajanikanta wrote nine novels : Rongalo (1925), Nirmal Bhakat (1926), Rohdoi Ligiri (1930), Tamleshwari Mandir (1926), Donduadruh (1929), Radha Rukminir Ron (1925), Thamba Thambi’r Sadhu (1932), including Miri Jiyori and Manomati.
Most of Rajanikanta’s novels were inspired and based on the ancient historical events of Assam. For instance, Manomati narrates the events following a group of people trapped between the retreating Ahom forces and the advancing Burmese army. In his novel, Nirmal Bhakat, Bordoloi has spun the story around the socio-political conditions of Assam, the Ahom dynasty and the Vasihnav religion. বৰদলৈয়ে মুঠতে ন খন উপন্যাস ৰচনা কৰিছে। ১৮৯৪ চনত মিছিং সমাজৰ পটভূমিত ৰচিত তেখেতৰ প্ৰথম অসমীয়া সামাজিক উপন্যাস হ’ল –‘মিৰি জীয়ৰী’। জনজাতীয় জীৱনক কেন্দ্ৰ কৰি বাস্তৱ জীৱনৰ পটভূমিত ৰচনা কৰা এইখন ৰজনীকান্ত বৰদলৈৰ প্ৰথম উপন্যাস হোৱাৰ লগতে একমাত্ৰ সামাজিক উপন্যাস। ইয়াৰ লগতে ‘খাম্বা-থুইবীৰ সাধু’ হ’ল লোক কথাভিত্তিক উপন্যাস। এই উপন্যাসখন মনিপুৰৰ প্ৰচলিত এটা সাধুৰ আধাৰত ৰচনা কৰা।
বিশেষকৈ ১৯০৯ চনত প্ৰকাশিত দন্দুৱা দ্ৰোহ উপন্যাস খন আহোম বিষয়া বদন বৰফুকনে কামৰূপ প্ৰজাৰ ওপৰত কৰা অত্যাচাৰৰ বিৰুদ্ধে হৰদত্ত আৰু বীৰদত্ত নামৰ দুই ভাতৃৰ নেতৃত্বত হোৱা বিদ্ৰোহৰ পটভূমিত ৰচনা কৰিছে। তেওঁৰ আন এখন উপন্যাস ১৯২৫ চনত প্ৰকাশিত ৰাধা ৰুক্মিণীৰ ৰণ উপন্যাস খন মোৱামৰীয়া বিদ্ৰোহৰ পটভূমিত ৰচনা কৰা।

তেখেতৰ ৰচিত প্ৰবন্ধ সম্ভাৰৰ ভিতৰত হ’ল – অসম চুতীয়া সন্মিলন, মণিপুৰী জাতি, শ্ৰীশ্ৰীভট্টদেৱ, শদিয়া ৰাজ্যৰ পুৰণি তত্ত্ব, দক্ষিণপাট সত্ৰৰ নৰদেৱ সত্ৰাধিকাৰ, দেৱাদামোদৰ আৰু হিন্দু ধৰ্ম, অসমত উপন্যাসৰ সঁজুলি, আত্মজীৱন চৰিত, মোৰ জীৱনৰ অভিজ্ঞতা, মোৰ সাহিত্যিক জীৱনৰ অতীত কাহিনী, মহাপুৰুষ শ্ৰীশ্ৰীশংকৰদেৱ আদি। তেখেতৰ এই প্ৰবন্ধসমূহ আসাম হিতৈষী, আৱাহন, বাঁহী, মিলন, জোনাকী, ঊষা আদি আলোচনীত প্ৰকাশ হৈছিল। তেখেতে ‘অসম প্ৰদীপিকা’ (১৯২৫) নামে এখন আলোচনী সম্পাদনা কৰিছিল। তেখেতে ১৯২৫ চনৰ ২৭ ডিচেম্বৰত নগাঁৱত অনুষ্ঠিত হোৱা অসম সাহিত্য সভাৰ অষ্টম অধিৱেশনত সভাপতি আসন অলংকৃত কৰিছিল।
